Better neighbourhoods

The road surface of Peardon Street has been in poor condition for some time and as you may know, a new surface will be laid on Wednesday. The work will take just two days and will make the street a much safer and more pleasant place. Your local councillors have asked that disruption be kept to a minimum.

The work in Peardon Street is being done as part of Lambeth Council’s Better Neighbourhoods environmental improvements scheme. In partnership with Lambeth Living, the council is undertaking a £3.5 million programme of environmental works to make Lambeth cleaner, greener and safer.

As one of your local councillors I have welcomed Better Neighbourhoods; which has targeted key areas where housing estates that are in most need of environmental improvements.

Whilst visiting Heath Road estate I got to see first hand how previously damanged (and dangerous) paving has been replaced together with improvements to landscaping.

There is still a great deal to do however these improvements have made a dramatic difference to the area and I would like to see this rolled out to more areas across Clapham Town Ward.

Roads and pavements are only part of the Better Neighbourhoods story. New street trees will be planted, recycling facilities will be improved on estates and tired and outdated street signs and furniture will be replaced.
