I was delighted to be invited to return to my senior school which is North West London where I lived from the age of 8 until I left home when I was 15.
I was given a tour of Queensmead School in South Ruislip by two current students who sit on the school council and they did an excellent job showing me around and explaining the many advancements at the school.
I was able to pop into some classes and introduce my self as an ex-pupil who is currently the Mayor of Lambeth and how I hoped that some of them would go on to do something similar.
I met one of my former teachers Mr Capp who remembered me when I had a heavy mop of curly hair.
I was accompanied by my consort Anne Sassoon who as a former lecturer has a particular passion for education and was extremely impressed by the standards at the school.
The woodwork class room had not changed it all – I recollected how much I disliked those lessons and was pleased to hear that there is now much more flexibility over what subjects students take.
I was delighted and proud to return as Mayor of Lambeth to my school. And whilst I am now firmly a south Londoner it was great to go back and see how things had changed and what had stayed the same.
