It was great to see so many members of the public as I opened what I believe to be the first Morrisons in Streatham by cutting the ribbon at the new store.

The new store includes Market Street, a series of individual fresh food shops, such as the butcher, fishmonger and baker. I was given a tour of the store and shown behind the scenes, seeing food being prepared from scratch by the freshly trained staff. As a lover of bread I was delighted to get the chance to make some Bloomers with the Morrisons bakery team.
Local people crowded into the store and it was soon packed and many commented how pleased they were to see the building occupied for the first time since Safeway was closed in 2005. With new jobs also for the area it was a great morning for Streatham and I’d like to wish all the team at Morrisons every success at their new store.
