Guided Into The Unknown

Little fingers
Held within your hands
As you guided us
Into the unknown
A risk you took
For which we paid
Only leaving
When it was to late

Young eyes
Fresh and trusting
Look to you for protection
As the first raised voices turn to strike
The first tears are told not to cry
Face discovering what to cry for

Tiny legs
Learnt how to run
But you hid the map
That showed a way to escape
You led us back
Time and time again
Always promising change

Vunerable minds
Starved of love
Drowned by fear and hate
Searching in dreams
For a world you failed to provide
But as they wake each day
Still tenderly loving you despite
